Sliding windows are made up of horizontally sliding sashes. This type is not too expensive and extremely easy when it comes to cleaning them. That is because all you have to do is remove these sashes, clean them up and then put them in place. However ventilation might be a problem, because only one sash slides over the other at a time.
Hinges let you open your casement window either on the outside or on the inside, and that is how you get all the ventilation that you require. The usual casement windows use hinges, while the new ones work on pivot mechanism. Whatever you choose, you have no worry about cleaning because both the sides of the window can easily be reached.
There may not be heavy ventilation in an awning window as these must be tilted from the bottom to open. That is mainly because it is attached by the hinge on the top rather than the sides, as in the case of casement windows. If you see an awning window attached to hinges at the bottom, then that's a hopper window.
A Jalousie window is a window in which glass slats are assembled to tilt when cranked open. That is the reason this type of window lets in a lot of fresh air, and all the ventilation that one would require. Security is the only concern when it comes to having a Jalousie window.
If you are looking for windows that you don't plan to open because of the very hot or cold weather outside, then you have been looking for a fixed pane window. These provide zero ventilation, but are ideal if you live in a very hot or very cold climate where you need to have the air conditioner or heater on throughout the day.
A double hung window looks very pretty, and is very commonly seen in most American homes. It is made up of two sashes, and one has to be slid over the other to open it. That's why only half of the double hung window opens at one time. The ventilation can however be managed by the simple tactic of opening the upper part of one window, and the lower of the other one that is opposite to the first one. With that, the air in the room makes its way out from the window with the upper portion open, and fresh air makes its way in from the lower portion.
Both single and double hung windows are of the same type, and the only difference between the two is the number of open able sashes. In single hung, just one sash can be opened and in double hung, both sashes can be opened.
Bay windows look extremely elegant these windows have a central window with one or more sections on each of its sides, and the windows are either in casement or double hung forms.
In this type of window, there are at least three portions that extend from the wall. These portions extend in a bow like curvature which is why it is called a bow window.
Tilt turn window is both a window and also an emergency exit, and that's mainly because this kind of window can turn up to even a hundred and eighty degrees. So you can tilt it to a comfortable angle to clean it up.
Egress windows are usually found in bedrooms. These windows also serve as an emergency exit due to their big size. These are big enough to meet the requirements for an emergency exit, defined by the local building code for an emergency exit.
Storm windows are perfect for harsh weather conditions. These windows have an air pocket existing between itself and the usual window acting as a barrier against stormy weather.
